Periodontal gum disease mostly advances without any pain and the patient may not know really what they have periodontal disease. It is thus, a good idea, to take steps to prevent gum disease in the first place. Here is what you can do to prevent diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis:

1. Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 3 minutes

2. Make rotary movements and position your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle to thoroughly remove plaque along the gum.

3. Finish by using dental floss to clean between your teeth.

4. Use a gum care special mouthwash to kill bacteria in your mouth.

5. Eat foods rich in Vitamin C since a deficiency can cause gum disease.

6. Stay away from tobacco.
